LORENA, TX (KXXV) - One man is now behind bars after running from his vehicle during an attempted traffic stop near Lorena.

Lorena police assisted deputies in the incident overnight Thursday, near Telephone Road and South Old Temple Rd. Police say the driver initially tried to flee in his car, but after a few minutes, the car quit running and the driver and passenger bailed out.

The passenger was caught, and later released with no charges. The driver fled into a field and then a large search ensued. McLennan County Sheriff's Deputies, DPS, and officers with the Bruceville-Eddy and Lorena Police Departments were involved in the search. A helicopter was also used.

About 2:30 Friday morning, the man, later identified as Richard Oswald, contacted deputies and turned himself in. Oswald is being held on a parole violation and a marijuana charge. Other charges are pending.
