Houston man running from troopers caught in Bell County

BELL COUNTY, TX (KXXV) - A 67-year-old Houston man is being held in the Bell County Jail after DPS troopers had to spike his truck tires to get him to stop after he fled from a trooper in Elgin.

Douglas Lewis is being charged with felony evading arrest with a motor vehicle. He will eventually be taken to Bastrop County.

DPS spokesman DL Wilson says the incident started about 10:45 a.m. Friday morning when a DPS trooper tried to stop Lewis for speeding in Elgin. Lewis fled in his Ford F-150, continuing on to I-35 northbound, at speeds of over 80 mph.

Troopers finally spiked his tires at the 285 mile marker, south of Salado, just before 11:40 a.m.
