Authorities seize over $200,000 worth of K2, arrest one

MCLENNAN COUNTY -

One man has been taken into custody after McLennan County Sheriff's Deputies seized a record amount of K2, or spice, during a search of a Woodway home and a storage unit Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies say it was a three month investigation that led to the discovery of 17.3 kilograms of spice and more than 200 hydrocodone pills. The total street value of the drugs is an estimated $200,000.

Sheriff Parnell McNamara says it is a one of a kind drug bust.

"Usually we will get some from out of a vehicle or whatever. There are over 4,000 packages of k-2 that were seized in this raid," McNamara said. "We are not going to tolerate this kind of activity."

McLennan County Sheriff's Office spokesman Matt Cawthon reports that deputies raided a home in the 200 block of Rockford Dr. in Woodway as part of an ongoing investigation.

They found multiple trash bags of k-2 spice in hidden compartments in the home, and then arrested 59-year-old Amubarak Ali. Deputies raided Ali's storage unit a short time later, and found more than 14 kilograms of spice.

The sheriff says they believe Ali was the supplier of a large drug operation.

"We feel very good about this. Any time you have a seizure of this size that means there are four thousand packages of this trash are not going to be available to the young people out there or whoever wants it," McNamara said.

Sheriff's officials say k-2 spice is popular among the younger crowd of drug users because of it's colorful and cartoonish packaging. They are just thankful that a good chunk of this drug will no longer be available for people in McLennan County.

"I think this is a very significant dent. We know there is a lot more out there, and mark my word we are going to be doing every thing we can to go after these thugs that are doing this," McNamara said.

Ali has been charged with two counts of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
