Man arrested for stealing jewelry from employer

WACO, TX (KXXV) - A former employee of a jewelry store in Richland Mall has been arrested and booked into the McLennan County Jail for stealing nearly $30,000 worth of jewelry.

Damion D. Jones, 26, faces a charge of theft of property over $20,000. Police say he stole $29,859 worth of jewelry from Jewelry Repair and Design in the Richland Mall.

The business owner called police back in December when he noticed inventory missing. He checked security cameras and watched not only customers, but employees as well. He spotted what appeared to be an employee stealing the jewelry.

Detectives used that information from the business owner and got more information from an online database from operators of area pawn shops. Police were able to trace the pawning of the stolen jewelry at several different pawn shops in the area.

They obtained an arrest warrant for Jones and he was taken into custody after being spotted Tuesday.
