Massive Pot Bust in Williamson County

Two men are in jail after authorities in Williamson County found 300 pounds of marijuana in their van during a traffic stop Wednesday morning.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., Williamson County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a 2005 Chevrolet van for a traffic violation in the 12300 block I-35 in Jarrell.

During initial contact with the driver, identified as Alfredo Preciado-Salas, the deputy could smell the distinct odor of marijuana. The passenger of the van was identified as Aurtro Preciado, the brother of the driver. Both suspects denied having drugs in the vehicle. The deputy then requested permission to search the vehicle and consent was granted.

While searching the van, the deputies found several blocks of marijuana hidden in the racks of the van. The van was brought back to the sheriff's office, where more thorough search produced 52 bricks of marijuana totaling 314.6 pounds. The marijuana had an estimated street value of $142,000.

Alfredo and Aurtro Preciado are both in the Williamson County Jail, charged with possession of marijuana, more than 50 but less than 2,000 pounds. Bail is set at $75,000.
