UPDATE: Tip leads to arrests in Waco vehicle vandalism cases

WACO, TX (KXXV) - UPDATE: Police say a witness gave police a tip that broke open the investigation into the recent car vandalism cases in Waco.

Based on the tip and the investigation, a detective was able to charge three male juveniles with felony criminal mischief Thursday morning. Police believe they are responsible for at least 30 criminal mischief cases in Waco. Police say they used a BB gun or rocks to damage vehicles in Waco.

Waco officers worked at least 16 cases from Feb. 21 to Feb. 24, where windows were broken out of vehicles. Police believe they are using a BB or pellet gun, or a slingshot, to shoot out windows of parked and unoccupied vehicles.

Police say these incidents have caused several thousand dollars in damages.

Officers were called out to the Northwest Waco area on Friday morning by victims who had their windows broken. Police continued getting calls throughout the weekend. Most of the incidents occurred at night, and in the area bordered by 19th St., to the Chimney Hill Addition, and from Park Lake to Herring Ave.

Police believe the suspect or suspects are driving up to the victim's vehicle and shooting out the windows, then leaving the area before victims can see them and provide a description of the vehicle or a suspect.

Police are asking for the public's help to identify those involved in these incidents. Victims who have not reported similar incidents to police are encouraged to do so.
