Sheffield loses District 55 primary to Molly White

BELL COUNTY - In one of the biggest surprises of primary night Tuesday, State Representative Ralph Sheffield of Temple was defeated for the District 55 seat by Belton's Molly S. White.

She garnered 53.7 percent of the vote, defeating Sheffield by 691 votes.
White credited the support of lots of friends for the win, saying "our message was that we need someone in Austin who will really represent the true conservative values of this district and someone who will be that voice - and I look forward to being the voice of the folks in this district."

She also said one of her priorities will be to cut back on wasteful spending and continue to fight Obamacare once she gets to Austin.  White is also a big proponent of the Second Amendment and believes people should not be required to have a license to carry a gun.

Sheffield had held that seat since he won a special election in 2008.
