Lester Gibson defeats former employee for Democratic seat

MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX (KXXV) - Long-time commissioner Lester Gibson wins Democratic ticket against former employee Norman Manning.

Gibson won with 76% of the vote, defeating Manning 751-234, and is now the Democratic candidate for McLennan County Commissioner Precinct 2.

His opponent, Manning, worked as a truck driver for Gibson and he also sits on the Waco ISD School Board. Manning, though, said earlier in the night he thought he could do a better job than his former employer.

The voters, however, went with experience instead of change. Gibson is on his 24th year as Commissioner, but he says this will be his last year. He says it's because he's getting old.

When asked what he wants to do in his final year, he says he mainly wants the commissioners court to focus on what's right for the county and not politics.

"For McLennan County to be equal and our commissioner court come to an understanding that we represent people, we don't represent a party," Gibson said.

Gibson will face the Republican nominee Tony Abad in the November election.
