Man taken into custody following chase through multiple counties

CENTRAL TEXAS - A 43-year-old man has been taken into custody after he pulled a knife on deputies following a police chase that went through multiple counties Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the pursuit started in Navarro County, at 12:52 p.m., when a deputy noticed a pickup on the side of the road with a window broken out, and stopped to help the driver.

As the deputy approached the 2002 silver GMC pickup, the driver sped off and the deputy gave chase. The truck went from Navarro County, through Hill County on Highway 31, and entered McLennan County. DPS, Hubbard Police, Hill County Constables and Navarro County were in pursuit of the truck.

Authorities spiked the truck's tires at Longhorn Parkway and Highway 31, near Axtell, but the driver kept going. The tires were spiked two more times, but the driver continued driving. Authorities say all of his tires were flat at this point.

The driver, later identified as Bobby L. Keene, from Frankston, TX, continued onto Highway 84 toward Bellmead. He finally wrecked out between Aviation Parkway and Selby Lane, but refused to get out of the truck.

As deputies approached, authorities say Keene pulled a large knife. A Taser was used on him, but he continued to fight and would still not come out of the truck.

He was then shot with a bean bag fired from a shotgun and was still fighting as he was taken into custody.

Keene will be facing charges in McLennan County for pulling the knife on deputies and will be taken to the McLennan County Jail.
