UPDATE: Gun reported stolen from local gym recovered

WACO, TX (KXXV) - UPDATE: A gun belonging to a retired McLennan County Sheriff's deputy that was reported stolen from a locked locker at Gold's Gym has been recovered.

Gym employees began checking lockers following the theft. They were removing old locks from lockers, when they discovered a bag inside another locked locker. There were items belonging to the deputy inside the bag, along with the handgun.

Police think that whoever took the items had put it in another locker to come back and get it later.

The reported theft occurred around noon on Thursday, February 27. Police say a retired McLennan County Sheriff's deputy went into the gym to work out and placed his belongings and handgun in a locker with a lock.

He came back an hour later and the lock had been removed and the handgun was gone. There were no security cameras in the locker area.
