Child nearly hit by school bus, company investigates incident

Jonathan and Amanda Windle say they couldn't believe what they saw on Monday. A school bus just inches away from hitting their daughter.

"That's a fear I don't think any father wants to feel," Jonathan Windle said.

His 7-year-old Aries was coming home from school. After she was dropped off by her bus, she began to cross the street when the unthinkable happened.

"I'm standing right in front of the bus waiting for my child and the other girl gets of the bus and gets off just to look up to notice another bus screeching their brakes right in front of me and scaring, not only the hell out of me, but also my child," Windle said.

Windle and his wife were not only upset about the incident, but also because the bus driver didn't acknowledge her mistake before driving off.

"She didn't event look at me. Not once. Didn't say she's sorry. Or say my bad, I almost flattened your kid," Windle said.

The bus driver works for Durham School Services in Bellmead. Windle says the company told them, the situation was taken care of.

We reached out to Durham School Services for comment Thursday morning, and they responded with a statement.

It read, "The safety of the students we transport is always our top priority. We are aware of an incident on Monday in Bellmead, in which a bus driver may not have followed protocol potentially causing an unsafe situation. The driver has been placed on leave while we investigate the incident. As an extra measure to ensure our safe driving techniques are followed, we will provide refresher training to all drivers."

We spoke to Bellmead police who said the bus was pulled over, but no citation was issued and no arrest was made.

Windle just hopes more parents are aware of their children's surroundings and avoid a possible disaster as well.

"You never know when that one moment happens to you. It is going to be you all of a sudden," Windle said.
