Killeen approves new budget for homeless shelter

KILLEEN - The Killeen City Council approved adding money to their budget to help fund a new homeless shelter near downtown.

The project is estimated to cost around $1 million.

The city says they want to increase their general fund by $250,000 to complete funding for the goal.

Half of the money was originally funded through a community development block grant, but they were still short the last $125,000, until tonight.

The Families in Crisis Corporation is in charge of the project.

The shelter should be up and running by December of this year, according to the corporation.
