Woman arrested for hit and run accident in Waco

Posted:
WACO - Waco police report a 22-year-old student has been arrested following a hit and run accident earlier in February.

Claire Lazell Edwards has been taken to the McLennan County Jail on a charge of failure to stop and render aid at an accident with an injury.

According to Sgt. Patrick Swanton with Waco PD, the hit and run occurred Feb. 9, in the 2500 block of South 3rd Street Rd. Police say a 20-year-old man was walking along the side of the road and was knocked down after being hit by a black Dodge Challenger going southbound.

The man was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers were able to find the vehicle later that night. They turned the case over to investigators and they interviewed the driver, who police say admitted to hitting something after she had been out drinking at a local club. Edwards says she did not know what she hit and continued driving, police say.

An arrest warrant was obtained and Edwards was arrested on a charge of failure to stop and render aid.
