Lindsey Cargill and Kaitlyn Thumann each collected three hits and combined for four runs and three RBI. The Bears scored a run in every inning but the third before unleashing a six-run top of the seventh to close the game.

Hosack’s grand slam came with two outs in the seventh off Cal’s re-entered starting pitcher Katie Finch. Hosack tied for 10th all-time on Baylor’s career home runs list with the bomb over the leftfield wall, giving her 15 for her career, which tied her with Bri Chambliss (1996-97, 2000) for 10th on the school’s homer list.

Canion was relieved in the sixth inning, which ended her streak of five complete games, but she picked up her fifth win of the season allowing only two hits and striking out three.

THEY SAID IT
Glenn Moore on the Bears’ peformance
“It’s just what you want to see after a loss; a statement from your team that says, we’re better than that. It’s a very difficult field of teams, and to win convincingly against a good team like Cal requires great play on both sides of the ball. Whitney thrives in this type of competition, and she’s very good right now.

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will attempt to go 4-1 for the third-straight weekend when the Bears face Northwestern at 9 a.m. PT to close the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Sunday.
