Two robbery victims being investigated after more than $100,000 found in stolen vehicle

HILL COUNTY, TX (KXXV) -

Two men who say they were robbed at gunpoint in Hill County are now being investigated for money laundering after authorities later found a large amount of money inside their stolen vehicle.

The Hill County Sheriff's Office says two men reported being robbed Thursday night about 5:30 p.m., at a rest stop in Hill County. The robbers stole the victim's vehicle, with the victims inside. After driving about 10 miles, the robbers dropped off the victims, but kept the vehicle.

At midnight, deputies found the vehicle abandoned on a county road, with $120,000 inside. Officials say there could have been up to $500,000 inside, and the suspects took only what they could get.

The money was hidden inside the vehicle's door panels, and the panels were thrown all over the vehicle.

The robbery victims are now being investigated for money laundering because police say there could have been more than $500,000 hidden inside the door panels. The two being investigated have been identified, but names are not being released at this time.

Deputies are still looking for the robbers.
