KILLEEN - A Bell County resident was able to control a would-be burglary suspect who broke into his home and attacked him in his bed.

Bell County sheriff's deputies responded to a reported burglary at a home in the 15000 block of Maxdale Rd., south of Killeen, on Thursday.

When deputies arrived at the home, they saw two men in the front yard, one of which was holding a baseball bat. The man with the bat told deputies that he lived in the house.

The home owner told deputies that he was asleep in his bed, when he heard a loud crash. Before he could get up to check out the noise, a man stormed into his bedroom and started hitting him while he was still in bed.

During the attack, the home owner was able to gain control of the suspect and held him until deputies arrived on the scene. Deputies found that the front door of the home had been forced open.

Margarito Sanchez, 34, was arrested for burglary of a habitation. He is in the Bell County Jail pending screening by the Bell County District Attorney's Office.
