TXDOT paying for roads damaged by energy industry

Counties across Texas will get a little help this year paying for road repairs.

McLennan county officials say it's the first year for these grants. Texas Department of Transportation provides $225 million dollars for road repairs that were damaged due to shale gas explorationand production.

Officials in McLennan county says they are applying for these grants, but the damage is mainly caused by energy industry trucks. Other counties, though, have a much larger industry and may need more money.

The original deadline to apply for the grants was February 14, 2014. That was pushed back to March, 14 to give counties a little more time.
