Bell County resident shoots one of two burglary suspects

BELL COUNTY - A Bell County resident shot one of two burglary suspects early Monday morning after police say he woke up to find them breaking into his home.

Authorities received a 911 call just before 2 a.m. Monday morning from a person who said someone had cut the power to their house, located in the 600 block of Shaw Ln., just south of Killeen, and was attempting to break-in.

Bell County Sheriff's Deputies and Killeen PD responded to the scene and found a man in the front yard who had been shot in the arm. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple with non-life threatening injuries.

Following the initial investigation, police say that a family member woke up a resident of the home, Elijah Michael Wong, 22, and told him that someone was trying to break into their house.

According to police, as Wong was walking to the kitchen, the power to the house was cut off and someone kicked in the back door. Wong then fired two shots at the man who had kicked in the back door.

Police say a second man was trying to force his way into the front door at the same time. The second suspect fled as Wong approached him. Police were able to locate the second suspect and he is being interviewed.

Sheriff's Investigators are still investigating this incident.
