Hundreds turn out for McLane Children's Clinic open house

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

Children in Central Texas could be getting better health services at a new children's specialty clinic. Saturday, McLane's new Children's Specialty Clinic held an open house for parents and kids to tour the facility before it opens later this month.

The new five-story pediatric clinic offers both specialty and general services to kids in Central Texas.

McLane Children's Hospital Chief Physician, Dr. Reddy Berram says having this clinic was needed to help kids in the area.

"The building doesn't mean much by itself but what is in the building is what means a lot to this community. We have every single specialty that can take care of children," says Dr. Berram.

The hospital is uniquely organized by combining related pediatric services, like having a neuroscience center for anything related to the brain and a separate cancer floor.

"It's a huge, huge benefit to having these kids of services right in the center of central Texas because before we had all these organized; the children had to go Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and fort worth," says Dr. Berram. "That's the time they have to go out of the area, out of their comfort zone, out of their support system go to these big cities. It's not convenient at all for the families."

The McLane Children's Specialty clinic will open for business on Feb. 24.
