Harker Heights mayor resigns

Harker Heights has announced the resignation of its mayor Friday afternoon.

Mike Aycock's resignation was effective February 1st, according to the city.

The city said in a statement, due to unfortunate financial circumstances beyond his control, Aycock was unable to fully discharge his property tax obligations before the Jan. 31 deadline.

Under city charter rules, this disqualifies him from continuing in office.

Mayor Pro Tem Rob Robinson will succeed as mayor of Harker Heights.

Robinson has a lengthy record of distinguished service to the city, having served approximately 14 years on the Planning and Zoning Commission, most of those as chairman.

He has served on the City Council for nearly seven years and is currently the chairman of the Bell County Health District.

Robinson said it's a busy time for Harker Heights and that they will continue to move forward with their projects.

In the statement, the city also expressed their appreciation for Aycock's leadership.
