Icy roads causing accidents and road closures in Bell County

BELL COUNTY - There have been a number of wrecks in Bell County due to icy roads Friday morning.

Road conditions in Bell County have deteriorated, with bridges in all parts of the county icing over. DPS is reporting that troopers and deputies have responded to over 25 crashes on roads in Bell County.

Temple PD is reporting ice on roads with ice on all bridges and overpasses. US-190 near Nolanville is shut down due to bridge icing.

The Killeen Police Department is reporting accidents on the following roadways:

US 190 at WS Young Dr., Hwy 201 at Ft. Hood Rd. (SH195), Willow Springs at US 190, US 190 at Ft Hood Rd., SH 195 at Lampasas River bridge, and US 190 at Ft. Hood Main gate.

The W.S. Young Bridge is closed due to ice. All overpasses, bridges and raised roadways in Killeen are iced. Crews are out sanding.

Residents are asked to stay off the roads until conditions improve. It may take some time before highway crews can sand/de-ice roadways.

DPS has confirmed that there was a fatal accident on the northbound side of I-35, near the 279 mile marker, south of Salado. DPS says a Suburban was heading northbound with 8 people inside. The driver lost control and the Suburban rolled multiple times.

One passenger was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. 16-year-old Vanessa Sanchez has been identified as the girl who died in the wreck.
