WACO - Police arrested a burglary suspect Monday afternoon after a black SUV was stopped and searched on Cobbs Drive in Waco.

Officers were investigating multiple burglaries that occurred in the 1300 block of Royal Oaks. A neighbor saw a couple of suspicious people who matched the description given by police and told officers.

Officers saw two men carrying stolen property heading towards a black SUV. Police say the two men saw officers and started running. One took off toward the vehicle.

Police caught Zachary Dean Hicks and arrested him. Hicks has been charged with two counts of burglary of a habitation and one count of criminal mischief because he damaged a police car by kicking the window while he was being put in the police car. The other suspect was able to evade officers and is still at large.

A passerby reported that police were spreading items from inside the car out on the ground. Police recovered stolen items from the burglaries near Royal Oaks, as well as property police believe may have been taken during another area burglary Monday afternoon. Additional charges may be filed at a later time.
