Father and sons arrested after deputy allegedly assaulted

A family put behind bars after a Coryell County Sheriff's Deputy is assaulted. The incident happened Friday on FM 116 near Pidcoke.

The sheriff's office says this isn't the first time they've arrested multiple members of the same family, but they did say it's usually for fighting with each other and not authorities.

Criminal complaints against Jacob Amspacher, and his brother Melvin Jr. and their father Melvin Sr., say when a deputy tried to arrest Jacob Amspacher for refusing to identify himself, he ran. The deputy chased him into the backyard of his father's home.

The complaint says Jacob attempted to strike the deputy multiple times and tried to take his pepper spray. During the struggle, his father and brother came out from the house to help Jacob. After the deputy was able to distance himself, Jacob took off again before he was later arrested.

But Amspacher Jr. says that's not what happened.

"I came back outside and the officer and my brother were on the ground. I don't know what transpired there because I was not available to see that." says Amspacher. "When the sheriff and he released each other I asked the sheriff to calm down and to get off the property... I called the 9-11 and told them that I'm worried about me and I'm scared of what's going on outside and asked if they could send somebody else with a calmer head to come help out."

He claims the Sheriff's Office was harassing his family.

Jacob Amspacher faces multiple charges including evading arrests and assault on a peace officer and remains behind bars on almost $100,000 bond.

The sheriff's office returned to the property Saturday with warrants and arrested Melvin Jr. and senior. Both Melvin Jr. and his father were both charged with interfering with public duties and have both since bonded out.
