Two Men Attempt To Rob Local Smashburger

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

Two Temple men are behind bars after they were planning to rob a Smashburger restaurant in Temple.

Both of the men were employees at the restaurant and cousins as well.

28-year-old Adrian Hampton Jenkins and 30-year-old Quentin Jenkins are both in the Bell County Jail thanks to a tip from a Temple resident.

Investigators were told that Adrian was going to enter the Smashburger during closing time, and after police received that tip, they began to conduct surveillance on the restaurant.

Police were on the lookout for Adrian's car to see if it was in the area where they then saw him pull into the parking lot and go to the back of the business to hide behind some trash cans. After a short period, another employee came out of the restaurant and approached the cans. Adrian was not seen, and the employee went back inside. Adrian left, but returned some time later, and that's when police moved in.

"We want to thank the citizens and especially the tipster who came forward and had the courage to inform us that this was going to happen," Temple Police spokesman Chris Wilcox said. "It's through that cooperation for both the citizens and police that we can continue to keep this city safe and make it a great place to live and raise your families."

Police say that both men have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
