Waco PD's Street Crimes Unit confiscated drugs and arrested two wanted men Monday night after finding heroin, cocaine and hydrocodone at a Waco home.

The unit was working what police call "open air drug markets," which are areas known for illegal drug dealing. Officers went to the 800 block of Harlem about 5:30 p.m. Monday night and noticed that no one could get through because the street was so crowded with cars and pedestrians.

Police say several people immediately left as officers approached and some went into a nearby home. Officers conducted a "knock and talk" at the home and found 29 capsules of heroin, 2.6 grams of cocaine and hydrocodone tablets. Officers confiscated the drugs and arrested two wanted men at the scene.

Waco Police Spokesmen Sgt. Patrick Swanton says known drug areas bring more problems than just drugs.

"These are the kind of homes you don't want in your neighborhood, because it brings so much other problems into your neighborhoods. Your kids aren't safe to play in the street, people are coming and buying drugs, which they bring money, they bring guns, weapons with them," says Swanton.

24-year-old Denard Dashawn Paul was arrested for a parole violation warrant, failure to I.D., possession of a dangerous drug warrant and three traffic warrants. Officers also arrested 27-year-old Terrell Eron Warner, for several assault warrants and for evading arrest after he tried to flee from police, Monday.

No arrests were made for the drugs because police weren't able to determine who they belonged to.
