Waco PD takes part in red light campaign

WACO - Waco PD's Traffic Unit was out Thursday monitoring high crash intersections, as part of their red light campaign.

The unit went to intersections where drivers tend to run red lights. One of those intersections was at New Rd. and Waco Dr.

The goal of the campaign was to target traffic violators. The unit also had one of their officers in disguise.

"We've got an officer we're using in plain clothes as an observer standing in the median. He's actually spotting the violation. He's wearing a pair of video glasses that actually records the violations that occurs whether it's a seatbelt, registration or license plate expire," said Sgt. Patrick Swanton with Waco PD.

Over the two days, police were at 6 intersections, for a total of 10 hours and stopped 135 cars. They gave out 182 violations.
8 arrests were made because of traffic warrants and misdemeanors, and a total of 8 cars were impounded, according to Swanton.
