KILLEEN, Texas (AP) - A defendant who fled from a San Antonio courtroom last week during his aggravated assault trial has been captured about 150 miles away in Killeen.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office says Christopher Jones remains in custody pending extradition to San Antonio. He was caught Wednesday.
Jones was free on bond while facing charges that he beat his ex-girlfriend and set her home on fire in 2012. Investigators say Jones left court Jan. 8 during jury selection, saying he had to call his father about a legal matter, but never returned.
Jones wore an electronic ankle bracelet. The monitoring device was found discarded several miles away.
Jones faces up to life in prison if convicted of attacking his former girlfriend. More charges could be filed over his disappearance.
