Belton home damaged, man taken to hospital after morning fire

BELTON, TX (KXXV) - A Belton house was damaged and a man was transported to the hospital with second-degree burns after a fire started in the home Wednesday morning.

A call came in about a fire at a home in the 100 block of Palmetto St., just after 5 a.m. Crews from the Belton Fire Department arrived on the scene and Temple Fire sent an engine and a rescue truck to assist.

Fire crews had the fire under control at 5:52 a.m. An elderly couple in the house was able to get out, but the man was transported to a local hospital with second-degree burns to his feet.

Crews say the fire started in the bedroom, and the single story home received heavy damage. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Smoke detectors in the home were operational.
