Kidnapping charges dropped against suspect in officer involved shooting

WACO - The kidnapping charge against Michael Joseph Alvarado will be dropped by Waco PD following an investigation into the December incident that resulted in an officer involved shooting.

According to Sgt. Patrick Swanton, Public Information Officer for Waco PD, family violence detectives investigated the alleged kidnapping and determined that kidnapping charges cannot be brought against Alvarado because probable cause cannot be established.

Alvarado was accused of kidnapping his girlfriend, Caitlin McNamara, in December. The kidnapping report triggered a county wide search and ended in a shooting that sent Alvarado and Deputy Lt. Johnny Spillman to the hospital.

The kidnapping charge was dropped because McNamara refused to testify against Alvarado. Swanton also said the charge was dropped because of video surveillance detectives found and text messages to the McNamara's mom saying she was okay. The only charge that will be filed by Waco PD, is violation of a condition of bond.

Alvarado is still in jail and faces two charges of aggravated assault on a public servant and one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant for the officer involved shooting, which is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
