Skeletal Remains Discovered In Hewitt Identified

One set of skeletal remains found in a wooded area in Hewitt last September has been positively identified as a 43 year old Dallas man, Erasmo Guillen-Ruiz.  That's according to a news release from the Hewitt Police Department late this afternoon.

Hewitt police were called after a resident found two sets of bones September 6, 2013 in the 100 block of Bridle Trail next to his property.

Investigators ruled the case a homicide and sent the remains to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for examination, and extraction of DNA was done at the University of North Texas.

The DNA sample taken from the remains designated at John Doe #1 was checked against the law enforcement Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) and a match was made on Guillen-Ruiz more than three weeks ago.

Hewitt police are asking anyone who knows Guillen-Ruiz or has any information on the two deaths to call them at (254) 666-6272.

The second set of remains has not been identified.
