WACO - Waco police have arrested a 31-year-old man accused of holding his ex-girlfriend hostage for a night and threatening her with an ax.

Juan Alvarado Jr. has been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threat-family violence, and unlawful restraint for an incident at a home in 3100 block of W Lakeshore Dr. While they were transporting him to jail, police found a baggie of marijuana on him, so he is also charged with possession of marijuana.

According to police, Alvarado's now ex-girlfriend went to Alvarado's home on Sunday, Jan. 5, to pick up some of her things. When she got there, Alvarado is accused of refusing to let her leave. Police say Alvarado took the victim's keys, forced her into a bedroom and screamed at her. Alvarado is accused of keeping her at his home overnight.

The next morning, police say one of the victim's friends came to check on her and she managed to escape into her friend's car. Alvarado is accused of threatening them with an ax as they fled. He allegedly swung the ax at them and the car as they fled from the home.

Police were contacted and they found him a short time later still on the scene.
