Two men involved in Killeen fatal shooting were brothers

Posted:
KILLEEN - After further investigation, Killeen police now say the two men involved in a fatal shooting early Sunday morning were brothers.

Killeen police were called out to a home burglary call in the 2300 block of Zephyr Road just before 3 a.m. Sunday morning. Before officers arrived at the home, they were told that shots had been fired at the home.

The preliminary investigation showed that the resident of the home was woken up by his dog barking and saw someone coming through his bedroom window. He fired one shot, then immediately called police.

When police arrived, they found 32 year-old Terry Lee Moon Jr., lying in the backyard of the one-story home with a gunshot wound. The man was transported to Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died.

Upon further investigation, police say Moon lived at the home. According to police, Moon left the home earlier in the evening and told his brother that he was not coming home that night. His brother locked the renter's deadlock on the door, for which there is no key to unlock it.

Police say Moon came home unexpectedly and was unable to get in through the front door. He then went to his brother's window and began opening it. The man inside believed an intruder was breaking into his home and fired a shot, which hit him.

The resident of the home was taken into custody following the shooting for investigative purposes. After the case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney's Office, the resident was released and no charges were filed.

The case remains under investigation.
