Cities to hold free Christmas tree recycling events

Posted:
CENTRAL TEXAS - Killeen and Waco will be holding events over the weekend to let people recycle their Christmas trees for free and get a bag of mulch in the process.

On Saturday, the City of Killeen will be collecting trees at the Special Events Center, at 3301 South W.S. Young Drive, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The Keep Killeen Beautiful Committee and city staff will be there to recycle your live tree into mulch.

People can also take a free bag of mulch. All decorations have to be removed before you can recycle the tree. For more information, call (254) 501-7878.

Those who live near Waco will be able to recycle their trees at Keep Waco Beautiful's annual Chipping of the Green event. This will be held at the Paul Tyson Field parking lot on January 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those who recycle their trees will also get a free bag of mulch. For more information, you can call Keep Waco Beautiful at (254) 750-5728.

For those who can't make it to these events, the Cobbs Recycling Center, located at 2021 44th Street in Waco, will also recycle Christmas trees. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and proof of residency is not required. You can contact Solid Waste Services Customer Service at (254) 299-2612 to learn more.
