Former Riesel worker arrested for stealing from the city

A former book keeper is accused of using reward money from the City of Riesel's credit card.

41 year old Alishia Wright is charged with misapplication of fiduciary property/funds, which is a state jail felony. Wright was the city book keeper for 14 years until she stepped down in 2012.

Wright was arrested Friday and taken to the McLennan County Jail. According to an arrest affidavit, the current city secretary came to police in September. The secretary said Wright had a rewards card for the city credit card and had received reward money from purchases made for the city.

The McLennan County Sheriff's Office investigated the case so there would be no conflict of interest by police. They found credit card records showing $2,063.15 worth of transactions that were purchased using store credits that should have went back to the City of Riesel.

Some of the items bought were Xbox Live membership cards, gift cards and school supplies. The affidavit says none of these items went back to the city.

Wright admitted to using the reward card for personal purchases, but says she had permission from her former boss who has since passed away. Wright is being held on a $3,000 bond.
