Two arrested for child abandonment following investigation

A Waco couple has been arrested following an investigation into a child abandonment incident that occurred on July 30.

Police obtained a warrant and picked up Nicholas Andrew Aleman, 28, and Cynthia Q. Salazar, 24, on charges of abandoning a child. Salazar is also being held on an immigration detainer.

Police say officers were called to the 2500 block of North 20th St. about a children wandering in the street. Police say the couple drove up about the time that officers arrived and secured the baby. Child Protective Services was also called.

The warrants were obtained following an investigation into the incident and the couple was booked into the jail Sunday.
