Texas man showing gun inadvertently shoots, injures teen
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a man showing a handgun to friends in North Texas fired the weapon without realizing it was loaded and struck a 14-year-old boy in the head, injuring him critically.
Fort Worth police say a group of people had gathered late Thursday evening at a home when the 24-year-old man pulled out the firearm. He shot it once, striking the boy above the eye. The teen was transported to a hospital.
Police spokeswoman Tracey Knight says the teen was in critical condition Friday.
The man who fired the gun ran from the home but later called police. He was questioned and later released. The investigation is ongoing.
Police say the man and teen were acquaintances and neither lived at the home. Their names haven't been released.
