Waco house receives heavy damage from morning fire

WACO - A Waco home was heavily damaged after a fire broke out just before 7:30 a.m. Monday morning.

The fire started at a single story, wood frame house located in the 3600 block of Hay Ave., at Winter St. in Waco. The fire alarm turned in at 7:29 a.m.

Six people lived in the house. At the time of the fire, four children, with ages ranging from 8 to 14, were in the house. They were all able to get out ok. One 13-year-old girl had to crawl out of a window to escape the flames.

One large dog in the garage got out, but a puppy in the house did not get out. There were no reported injuries for the people inside the house. Red Cross will be assisting the family.

Investigators say the fire started in the front of the house, but the exact cause is still under investigation. The house received heavy fire damage to the front, and smoke damage throughout.
