IRVING, Texas (AP) - Retail gasoline prices have dropped 6 cents per gallon this week across Texas as travelers prepare for upcoming holiday trips.
AAA Texas on Thursday reported the average price at the pump averaged $3.03 statewide. Nationwide gasoline prices slipped 4 cents to settle at $3.21 per gallon.
The association survey found Amarillo has the cheapest gasoline this week at $2.81 per gallon. The most expensive gasoline is in the Austin and San Marcos areas at $3.07 per gallon.
AAA officials attribute the cheaper prices to resolution of production concerns along the Gulf Coast and limited seasonal demand between Thanksgiving and end-of-the-year holidays.
The travel group estimates 7.9 million people in Texas will travel during the period starting Saturday and running through Jan. 1. Most travelers are expected to drive.
