Flu cases on the rise in McLennan County

MCLENNAN COUNTY - The number of flu cases in McLennan County has greatly increased over the past two weeks.

The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District says 29 flu cases were reported by healthcare providers and school nurses in the last week of November.

That number more than tripled to 113 cases reported in the first week of December. The number of flu cases tripled again last week, as there were 344 reported from December 8-December 14.

The Health District reminds everyone that the best protection against the flu is vaccination. They say it is not too late to get a flu shot, as flu season does not peak until January or February.

The Health District also recommends that anyone with flu symptoms, including a fever, avoid contact with others. Those with the flu can help slow the spread of the virus by using basic hand and cough hygiene.
