Local karaoke bar catches fire, suffers severe smoke damage

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

Waco Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a Friday morning fire at a local karaoke bar. The fire started in the back of PJ's Bar and Grill at around 6:30 a.m.

Housekeeping employees walked into the bar and smelled something burning. When they called police, they were told to evacuate and minutes later the fire began to erupt.

A small storage unit, with nothing inside, was destroyed in the fire, and the back of the building was burnt. A small portion of the roof also caught fire and collapsed. Owners of the building say the roof had just been replaced four months ago.

Fire officials say there is significant smoke damage inside, but would not call the building a total loss. They say it will be up to the insurance company to determine the total cost of the damage.

No one was hurt, and the cause for the fire is under investigation.
