Inmate back in custody after momentarily escaping

WACO, TX (KXXV) - An inmate is back in handcuffs after momentarily escaping from custody Thursday morning.

The incident occurred in the McLennan County IV-D Court. A judge ordered Rodney Duane Kuykenball to be jailed on child custody charges.

They only got one handcuff on him before he started to put up a fight. He scuffled with two guards before getting away. One witness said he heard yelling for ten minutes then saw Kuykenball run out the front door.

Once Kuykenball was out, he called Elizabeth Salazar to pick him up. Security officers saw him get into the van with Salazar. Police were able to catch up with them and officers arrested them both at the intersection of 11th and Clay.

"It's a pretty serious situation you have somebody that the judge has remanded someone into custody for one reason or another and they start fighting with officers and flee out of the courthouse," McLennan County Sheriff's Detective Michael Graham said.

Salazar is facing a charge of facilitating an escape from arrest and Kuykenball faces a felony escape charge.
