Man sentenced to 5 years for robbing Waco bank

WACO - A man who admitted to robbing a local bank with his wife was sentenced to five years in federal prison Wednesday in Waco.

Matthew Chudej held up the First National Bank of Central Texas at 1835 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco Aug. 9, 2012.  His wife, Wendy, previously pleaded guilty to writing the demand note for tellers and driving the getaway car in the robbery.

After his prison time, Chudej will serve three years supervised release and must pay $5,621 in restitution.

The court also recommended he be incarcerated in North Texas so he can continue to receive drug abuse treatment.

Chudej’s attorney, mother, grandmother, brother and grandfather all wrote letters to the judge, hoping for a shorter sentence.  Most of them said Chudej’s mother had drug problems, and both his father and grandfathers died when he was young, so he did not have a role model in the home.  On top of that, his 6-year old stepdaughter was killed in an auto resident.

His wife Wendy, is set to go to trial for helping him rob that bank.
