Small town police make $300,000 drug bust

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, TX (KXXV) -

Bruceville-Eddy police make a major drug bust overnight finding $300,000 worth of cocaine.

Police say they stopped a pickup on I-35 around 7:30 Friday night for a busted headlight. Officers talked with 19 year old Saul Herrera and became suspicious and didn't think he was telling the truth. They then got consent to search the truck and found there could have been hidden contraband.

After a more intensive search they found a hidden compartment. Officers found 22 pounds of field tested cocaine inside. The estimated street value is around $300,000.

Herrera was taken to the McLennan County Jail and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. He's being held without bond on a federal warrant.
