BELL COUNTY -

A driver reached speeds in excess of 100 MPH while fleeing from police after they tried to make a traffic stop on the vehicle Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the chase started with an incident in Temple Thursday afternoon. Temple police received a call about narcotics activity at the Barrington Motel in the 400 block of SW Loop.

When officers arrived, they attempted to pull over a suspected vehicle and the driver fled. Officers say the driver turned the wrong way onto one way Fifth St. and drove wildly through oncoming traffic.

For safety reasons, Temple PD immediately stopped the pursuit and broadcast an "attempt to locate" message to all law enforcement agencies in the area.

The vehicle was later spotted in Belton, where officers attempted to stop it, but the driver fled again.

The vehicle ended up on FM 439 and reportedly reached speeds up to 105 miles per hour. The pursuit continued at high speeds into Nolanville, where both DPS and Nolanville officers attempted to spike the vehicle's tires.

Two tires were flattened, but the driver continued driving. The driver turned first onto 439 Spur, then onto Main St. in Nolanville, and then eventually onto westbound 190 service road.

The occupants of the vehicle then began to bail out of the vehicle in the area near the CEFCO in Nolanville. The two men inside the vehicle were then taken into custody.

UPDATE: Roman Lee Luna, 30, and Sulliven Rodriguez, 17, were the two men inside the vehicle and were arrested following the chase.

A DPS spokesman says one man bailed out of the car and was chased down by a trooper. The other man reportedly continued to flee in the vehicle and appeared to be trying to run down officers in a parking lot, where he was later cornered.

Troopers did recover contraband at the scene, including marijuana, methamphetamines, and other drugs being tested for confirmed identification. A loaded handgun was also found in the car.

Numerous charges are being screened against the two men, including the possibility of federal charges.
