BELTON -

A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with a near head-on collision in Belton, in which a 20-year-old woman was killed.

The accident occurred on FM 1670 just before 6:15 p.m. Sunday night.

Belton police report that a Dodge pickup was southbound on FM 1670, about a quarter of a mile south of Hwy 190, when it crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a Dodge Stratus. It also hit a Mercury Grand Marquis that was behind the Stratus.

The driver of the Stratus was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where she was later pronounced dead. Authorities have identified the victim as Brianne Nicole Pratt, 20, of Salado.

Michael Alexander Soto, 24, the driver of the Dodge pickup, was taken into custody initially on a charge of driving while license invalid. Soto was transported to the Bell County Jail.

Belton police say the accident is still under investigation and other charges are pending.
