Semi truck bursts into flames, sparks interstate backups

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

A semi-truck burst into flames along southbound I-35 in Waco this morning, backing up traffic for hours.

At 5:03 a.m.., an 18-wheeler from Maine blew out a tire and slammed into a concrete barrier near exit 328A towards Sun Valley Blvd.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers say the truck ruptured its 200-gallon diesel tank and caught fire.

Two people were inside the 2001 freight liner, but both escaped without injuries.  But the truck itself is in ruins.   The cab was engulfed by flames, as were parts of the trailer.

Troopers say it could take several hours to clear the debris off the road because it was carrying metal car parts that burned into the ground.

If you're planning to travel along southbound I-35, it may be wise to take the access road or an alternative route.

No other vehicles were in the accident.
