Two Temple officers fired for excessive force, both set to appeal

Posted:
TEMPLE -

Two officers who were fired following an investigation into their alleged use of excessive force, are planning to appeal their termination.

Officers Daniel Amaya and Jeremy Bales were both issued indefinite suspensions on November 13, by Chief Gary Smith. An indefinite suspension is the equivalent of termination and by state law, the officers are allowed to appeal.

The City of Temple received notice of appeal from both officers.

Back in May, Temple PD received a complaint from Elsa Martinez. She alleged excessive use of force by officers during the arrest of her 15-year-old son.

Following an internal investigation into the complaint, Temple PD fired Amaya and Bales. Temple PD cannot comment on this matter until after the appeals process has been completed.
