Assault victim stabs attacker in leg to stop attack

A 24-year-old man accused of beating his girlfriend so hard that he cracked her vertebra is now in the McLennan County Jail after being treated for a stab wound that the victim inflicted to stop the attack.

Justin Daniel Kinsey is being charged with aggravated assault/family violence causing serious bodily injury, aggravated assault and continuous violence against a family member.

According to Matt Cawthon of the McLennan County Sheriff's Office, Kinsey was arrested following an incident that occurred at a home in the 600 block of Elwood Rd. in the Speegleville area, about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Deputies say Kinsey was beating his girlfriend when another woman present tried to intervene, and Kinsey then began attacking her.

When Kinsey returned his attention back to his girlfriend, she managed to reach a knife and stab him in the lower leg.

Kinsey was taken to the hospital, then transported to the McLennan County Jail.
