Man accused of trying to start knife fight, then threatening retaliation against victim

BELLMEAD, TX (KXXV) -

A 30-year-old man accused of trying to start a knife fight with another man, picked up an additional charge for allegedly threatening to come back and kill the original victim.

Roger Glenn Sterling Jr. has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and an additional charge of felony retaliation for an incident in Bellmead on Monday night.

Bellmead police were called to the 600 block of Travis Monday night about a disturbance that began when the residents of the home heard rocks being thrown against the side of their house.

Police say a resident of the home went to the door and saw a man, later identified as Sterling, standing out in the street. Sterling was yelling for the resident to come out and fight. When he refused, Sterling is accused of then pulling out a knife and threatening him with it.

The family then called police. Before officers arrived, a large chunk of asphalt was thrown against the side of the house.

Bellmead officers arrived and arrested Sterling on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Once he was in the back seat of a patrol car, Sterling is accused of telling the arresting officer that when he got out of jail, he was going to come back and kill the victim by slitting his throat. This threat resulted in the additional charge of felony retaliation.
