Former Hallsburg teacher pleads guilty to injury to a child

A former Hallsburg teacher accused of having sex with a 13 year-old student in 2007 was back in court Friday.

Patricia Rush pled guilty to injury to a child and received eight years deferred probation in addition to the three she's already served while out on bond.

Rush was also ordered to pay a two-thousand dollar fine and lost her teaching certificate for life.

Her formal sentencing has been set for January.

In 2007 the former physical education teacher was arrested on 16 counts of having sex with one student, but those charges were later dropped.

Then in 2011, she was indicted by the Texas Attorney Generals Office on 18 counts of having an improper relationship with a student.

Rush was acquitted of ten of those charges and when the jury couldn't reach a decision on the remaining eight and was a mistrial was declared.
